The Festival in Movement
The 61st Cannes Film Festival will take place 15 - 26 May 2008.
For the past 60
years, the Festival has constantly observed a living cinema,
discovering thereby its styles, trends and points of emergence on world
cartography in perpetual evolution. It continually pursues as well
reflection on its own future to provide itself with the best means
possible to prepare for and respond to the expectations of both
professionals and film lovers alike.
This symbolic date of the 60th anniversary
offers the Festival de
Cannes
the occasion to mark its entrance into
the 3rd millennium by placing the event under the sign of modernity and
renewal. And to thus celebrate international cinema, we wish to
revitalise each of our actions and artistic choices, highlight ever
better the films, and last but not least bring together the artists
around shared sources of inspiration and passion.
This future vision is fully expressed in the poster, composed of Alex
Majoli's photos for the agency Magnum in a manifesto which brings
together great names of the international cinema in a dynamic surge
forward...
In illustration of this
will for the anniversary to be as well a tribute to artists, we have
initiated a project for an original film, A Chacun Son Cinema, a work
both personal and collective devoted to the cinema. 35 renowned
directors have taken up the challenge. Each of them had entire freedom
to imagine a 3-minute film based on this theme. It reunites film lovers
the world over around the motion-picture theatre as a temple of this
shared passion.
It is this same spirit which presides over the launch of this
brand-new, completely restructured website, with modernised aesthetics
and simplified navigation, which makes available to you the most
innovative technologies. An important platform reflecting the
Festival's work in favour of cinematic creation, it will equally
respond to the expectations of professionals by developing practical
services.
